Why your website gets visitors but no bookings

By the iListen team · Published 25 October 2026

Quick answer

Most visitors who leave without booking couldn't find the button, weren't sure you do what they searched for, or saw information that looked out of date. Fix those three things on a phone first.

If your website gets visits but the phone isn't ringing, the problem usually isn't how it looks. It's the small moments where a visitor hesitates, gets stuck, or isn't sure they're in the right place.

1. Can people book from their phone in one tap?

Most local searches happen on a phone. If the booking button is buried in a menu, or the phone number is part of an image that can't be tapped, many visitors give up.

The fix: put a Book or Call button at the top of every page, and keep it visible as people scroll.

2. Does the page match what they searched for?

Someone searching for "sciatica physio Marrickville" or "ducted aircon install Castle Hill" wants to see that exact thing. A general homepage makes them hunt for it.

The fix: give your main services, and the suburbs you cover, a page each.

3. Is your information up to date?

Old opening hours, a copyright year from years ago, or a staff member who has left all quietly tell visitors the business might not be looked after.

The fix: make sure your hours, team and services match your Google Business Profile exactly.

4. Does the site load quickly on a phone?

Large images, sliders and old plugins can make a page slow on mobile data, and people leave before it appears.

The fix: open your site on your own phone, away from wifi. If you're waiting, so are your customers.

5. Is it clear where you are and who you help?

Visitors decide in seconds. If the first screen doesn't say what you do, where you are and what to do next, they go back to Google.

The fix: one clear line at the top, such as "Physiotherapy in Marrickville, open six days", with the booking button right below.

Common questions

How many website visitors should turn into bookings?

It varies a lot by business and by where visitors come from. The useful number is your own: track it month to month and check it goes up after each change.

Do I need a new website to fix this?

Not always. Many of these fixes can be made to an existing site. A rebuild makes sense when the site is hard to update or slow on phones.

What should I fix first?

The booking button on mobile. It is usually the quickest change with the clearest effect.
